Tight Lines wins Silver Tommie in 2008 for Tractors and Vines

January 17, 2009, Kelowna, B.C. — Tight Lines Contracting Ltd. today announced it has been awarded a Silver Tommie in the category of Renovations over $300,000. The project, Tractors and Vines, is located in Trout Creek (Summerland), BC, and is owned by Ivan and Janet Janssen. The Tommie Awards are sponsored by the BC Interior chapters of the Canadian Home Builders Association and are awarded by a committee of the contractors peers.

“I was extremely pleased to once again be recognized by the selection committee and my peers for this project,” said Anthony Deane, President, Tight Lines Contracting. “This was an interesting opportunity for Tight Lines as not only were we able to renovate the home and build an adjacent barn, but we were also able to put the full property to use by planting a commercially viable vineyard, which the Jannsen’s are very proud of. The uniqueness of skills and trades required to complete the entire project was gratifying for all involved,” added Deane.

The Tractors and Vines project involved a complete re-design of the existing home including creation of new kitchen, dining, living, bathroom and bedroom spaces. Every room was reconstructed with modern cabinetry, floors, plumbing and electrical. The reclamation of existing fir floors and the addition of new appliances and fixtures added the subtle elegance the Janssens required. A wrap around ground level deck and extensive fir and cedar trellis work provide a great venue for quiet and sun sheltered outdoor recreation.

The accompanying barn was constructed with RV and tractor storage in mind and can accommodate both. The extensive shop facilities, including an underground service pit make allow for on-site tractor and other farm equipment service to be performed with ease. Extensive exterior concrete slabs allow for significant external storage and ample turn-around room for the largest pieces of equipment.

Nestled between an extensive apple orchard and an operating market garden, the Janssens desired the 1 acre of remaining property, which was in fallow, be utilized to its fullest extent and made the decision to plant grapes. The infrastructure (posts, trellis, drip irrigation) were first installed and Pinot Noir was planted.

Tight Lines Awarded Gold Tommie for Turtle Rock Farms Project

January 26, 2007, Kelowna, B.C. — Tight Lines Contracting Ltd. today announced it has been awarded a Gold Tommie in the category of Renovations over $300,000. The project, Turtle Rock Farm, is located in Naramata, BC, and is owned by Ron and Verna Britton. The Tommie Awards are sponsored by the BC Interior chapters of the Canadian Home Builders Association and are awarded by a committee of the contractors peers.

“I was extremely pleased with the award and humbled by the recognition of my peers,” said Anthony Deane, President, Tight Lines Contracting. “We are very proud of this project and the outcome for Ron and Verna. All my supporting partners, suppliers and trades did excellent work on tight schedules. It was great all around,” added Deane.

The Turtle Rock Farms project involved taking the existing solid brick one level home (2,700 sq ft) and completely gutting it and starting from scratch. Every room was reconstructed with modern cabinetry, floors, electrical work, fireplaces and appliances. Bathrooms (2 and 1/2) received extensive tile work and unique sink and tub layouts and all countertops were installed with marble. Glass showers were custom made and installed. Large custom French and sliding doors replaced solid walls. Some windows and doors were salvaged and reinstalled. The west facing side of the house received custom built trellis of yellow cedar. 8×8 cedar beams were used with each piece requiring over 80 artistic cuts each to give a classic west coast appearance. The brick exterior of the house was replaced with cultured river rock stone to 3 ft from the base and then finished with cedar board and batten to the soffit. New roofs were installed and several rooflines reconstructed. A 20’ X 20’ room and deck were also added onto the home to provide additional living quarters.

“We truly believe this property is the property it is today because of Anthony and company. It was a delight to work with Tight Lines as there were never any issues. We were always consulted on options and prices and on many occasions needed Anthony’s design and building knowledge to make decisions. We are extremely satisfied with the outcome,” said Verna Britton, Owner, Turtle Rock Farms.
